Affordable Relational Life Therapy Program

The Affordable Relational Life Therapy Program offers a limited number of sliding-scale relationship therapy places for couples and individuals experiencing conflict, disconnection, or difficulties in an important relationship.

Places are offered through a registration and review process. Therapy can begin with one person or with both partners, with a focus on understanding the patterns shaping the relationship and creating possibilities for change.

For Couples

Recurring conflict that feels difficult to resolve or move beyond
Emotional distance, resentment, or a sense of becoming disconnected
Intimacy, affection, or conversations about sex becoming difficult
Different needs for closeness, space, reassurance, or independence
Cultural differences, family expectations, or differing ideas about relationships creating tension
Relocation, study, work, distance, or other major transitions placing pressure on the relationship

For Individuals

Sometimes one partner may not yet be ready to participate. Individual relationship therapy offers a place to begin when you're experiencing difficulty within a significant relationship or want support understanding your own patterns.

  • Understanding patterns affecting relationships or sense of self
  • Boundaries, conflict or emotional disconnection
  • Difficulty changing relational patterns despite understanding them intellectually
  • Uncertainty within a significant relationship
  • Beginning individual work when a partner is not currently ready to participate

The focus remains relational: we look at your relationship with yourself, the other person, and the patterns between you.

Understanding the pattern—and changing it

Many couples do not need more insight into what they argue about. They need help seeing the pattern that takes over when conflict, distance, disappointment, or longing enters the room.

Relational Life Therapy (RLT) is a practical, relationship-focused approach developed by family therapist and author Terry Real. It helps couples work with the familiar cycle beneath the argument—whether one person pursues while the other withdraws, one carries more of the emotional or practical load, or both feel unheard and alone.

1.Notice the cycle

We identify the automatic moves that keep you stuck: shutting down, escalating, criticising, appeasing, pursuing, withdrawing, or keeping score. The aim is not to decide who is right, but to see what the pattern is costing the relationship.

2.Understand what drives it

We explore how early attachment experiences, family roles, cultural expectations, and protective strategies may shape how each person responds when they feel threatened, unseen, overwhelmed, or disconnected. This can include the gendered expectations you may have inherited about care, work, emotion, power, sex, or who is expected to carry the relationship.

3.Practise a different response

We build usable skills for speaking up without attacking, listening without collapsing, setting boundaries, taking responsibility, repairing after conflict, and creating more room for emotional and physical connection.

My work is also informed by attachment theory, Internal Family Systems (IFS), somatic awareness, and a culturally responsive systems lens. This helps us attend not only to the interaction between you, but to the histories, bodies, families, social expectations, and protective parts that shape it.

Choose Your Contribution

The sliding-scale offering is designed to make relationship therapy more accessible. Please choose the contribution level that best reflects your current financial circumstances.

$33 per 90-minute session

Significant financial strain

This option is for individuals or couples experiencing significant financial strain or difficulty meeting basic needs. This may include periods of unemployment, living on a very limited income, supporting others on one income, or other circumstances where meeting the cost of therapy would otherwise be difficult.

$50 per 90-minute session

Limited financial flexibility

This option is for individuals or couples who are generally able to meet their basic expenses but have very limited financial flexibility. This may be appropriate where there is little or no discretionary income and therapy would otherwise be difficult to afford consistently.

$100 per 90-minute session

Greater financial flexibility

This option is for individuals or couples who are not experiencing significant financial hardship and are able to contribute more towards their therapy. Choosing this level helps make lower-cost relationship therapy more accessible to others.

Every contribution level includes the same 90-minute session and the same standard of care.

Unable to afford these options?

Please select the option indicating that none of the listed contribution levels are currently accessible to you. Get in touch and we can discuss whether another arrangement may be possible.

An accessible model of care

I'm currently completing advanced training in Relational Life Therapy (RLT), with ongoing mentoring, supervision and consultation. I'm also participating with the Relational Life Foundation in their initiative to make RLT relationship therapy more affordable and accessible. Their approach has also informed the sliding-scale relationship therapy I provide directly through my own practice.

What the consultation involves

The 20-minute consultation is a brief conversation about what is happening, what you're looking for, and whether the program is an appropriate fit. It is not a therapy session.

For couples, both partners are encouraged to attend where possible. Sometimes one partner may not yet be ready to participate, and individual relationship therapy can still be a place to begin.
